Le royaume des sept couronnes est sur le point de connaître son plus terrible hiver : par-delà le mur qui garde sa frontière nord, une armée de ténèbres se lève, menaçant de tout détruire sur son passage. Traduction d'une nouvelle interview de GRRM:

Citation :

What are the major historical inspirations for ASOIAF?
The Wars of the Roses, The Hundred Years' War, the Great Interregnum in Holy Roman Empire, the Crusades, and the history of Scotland in general, for it was extremely bloody. I don't just borrow events from history and rename them, I think it would be fraud. Instead I like to take some real events, subvert them, twist them, interweave with other events, season them with fantasy elements and thus create something of my own.

How old was Daenerys when she left the house with the red door?
An interesting question, but I don't think I'll answer it now. There will be quite a few revelations about the red door in the next book, so you'll learn for yourself.

What will you write after ASOIAF?
First I need finish two ASOIAF books, Fire & Blood vol 2, six or seven Dunk and Egg novellas. I don't know what will I write after that, but it certainly won't be a massive seven-volume fantasy saga. Probably I'll write short stories, particularly in the Wild Cards universe, there are several characters that I want to take further.

   Where is Rickon?
Rickon Stark will show up in TWOW. He's certainly not dead.

How do you tell a dragon's sex?
It's really difficult to determine a dragon's sex. Usually my characters only find out it's a female when she starts laying eggs.

What inspired you to create Ramsay and Boltons in general?
I love when people show interest in Boltons! I came up with Ramsay when I needed one more villain, as I'd killed off a bunch of old ones. Moreover, it helped develop Theon's story, deprive him of several pieces of flesh and make him Ramsay's slave, pushing to submit to darker drives. I won't write a whole book about Boltons, but they'll be showing up every once in a while. And, of course, they will play a role in Fire & Blood.

There's a rumor that the main series features four descendants of Dunk — three men and one woman.
I won't confirm or deny it, but it's possible!

Did any of your characters end up totally different from what you'd imagined them initially?
The majority of ASOIAF characters function in the exact way I intended them to. But there are exceptions. Sometimes, certain characters grow more complex and important than originally planned. For example, Bronn – someone had to protect Tyrion in the South, so I created this character. He only had several interesting phrases in dialogues and I didn't think he would occupy so much space.

Why are there so many unloved sons in the series (Sam Tarly, Jon Snow, Tyrion, Theon)?
I guess it's true. I don't remember who said it but I think it was the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way". That's why there are so many unhappy characters in my books.

Will you reveal the origin of Others in the last book?
Yes, in the last two books there will be more about Others.

Would Lady have lived if Sansa told the truth?
Everything's possible. Robert Baratheon certainly didn't have analytical mind, he was a short tempered man who was often driven by his emotions. If Sansa told the truth, he would be likely to direct his anger towards Joffrey instead of the direwolves. But it's not set in stone, he also cared about preserving his marriage at the time.

Why did you kill Ned Stark?
Sean Bean asked for a raise.

When you write a scene in the books, do you see the events from the perspective of one of the characters or as an exterior observer?
In ASOIAF both I and the reader get the exact same picture as the character. If someone in a room with them is plotting to kill them, they wouldn't know it. We live our lives this way and it's the best way to make a book realistic.

   Tell us about your schedule.
In the recent months I've been failing to follow my usual schedule, I wake up and go to bed really late. But when I follow my comfortable schedule, I get up at 9 AM, spend about an hour on coffee and breakfast, so around 10 AM I start working. First I check my inbox, which is a mistake, as there are lots of emails which require my immediate attention and distract from work. In the best case scenario I finish with the mail in five minutes and dive into the world of Westeros. On better days I start writing at 10:15 with a cup of coffee on my desk and the next thing I see is that it's night already, the coffee is cold and I spent the whole day working. But it's not always like that. On bad days I look through the chapters I'd written yesterday, reread them and suddenly decide to rewrite them, spending an hour or five on that. Then I think, maybe I better check my inbox.

Will Jorah Mormont ever get out from the friendzone?
   I wouldn't bet on it.

Is ASOIAF your magnum opus or you plan to create something even greater?
Oh no, this thing nearly killed me and it's probably the most massive work that I'm capable of doing. I hope to continue writing standalone novels, novellas and short stories, but nothing on this scale.

Why do we know so little about House Mormont, their lifestyle, origin and role in the history of Westeros? It's just that the members of such a seemingly minor house are somehow present in all important places of your story.
I don't know. Sometimes people just appear in the right place in the right time!
