Anne Boleyn, The Tudors, défendue par roh_wyn =>http://roh-wyn.livejournal.com/

Day 1
Anne Boleyn is, at first glance, hard to love, much less defend. History has not been particularly kind to her, and her portrayal by Natalie Dormer in The Tudors, while brilliant, is not especially sympathetic. She is, by any measure, the most reviled of all of Henry VIII's six wives, and yet, she is easily the most fascinating as well.
Anne Boleyn is not just a pretty face on the show. She's well-versed in language and diplomacy and she's well-read enough to debate theology with the scholars of her time, including Henry VIII himself. She's a determined and surprisingly effective political player in an era when the wives of kings were little more than baby machines, although she meets her match in Thomas Cromwell.
Her stubborn refusal to submit to Henry's will wins her his hand in marriage, and her world--and ours--is changed forever. Finally, when forced to pay the ultimate price for her willfulness, she faces her end with dignity and grace.

Anne of a Thousand Days by roh_wyn
Anne was only six when a soothsayer told her she'd be a queen one day. “A thousand long will be your reign,” the gypsy had said. That day, Anne had laughed.
Now she's stranded in the stone bowels of the Tower, waiting, and no laughter will come. Her reign has indeed been a thousand long. A thousand days.
Of the thousand, she can remember a scant few. The others run together in a faded stretch of memory. But she is a queen, and on this last day of her reign, she will go to the block as a queen.

Day 4
1. Greensleeves (Loreena McKennitt)
I have been ready at your hand, To grant whatever you would crave, I have both wagered life and land, Your love and good-will for to have.
If you intend thus to disdain, It does the more enrapture me, And even so, I still remain A lover in captivity.
2. Collide (Howie Day)
Even the best fall down sometimes Even the wrong words seem to rhyme Out of the doubt that fills my mind I somehow find you and I collide
3. My Immortal (Evanescence)
You used to captivate me by your resonating light Now, I'm bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
4. Black Magic Woman (Santana)
I got a Black Magic Woman. I got a Black Magic Woman. Yes, I got a Black Magic Woman, She's got me so blind I can't see; But she's a Black Magic Woman and she's trying to make a devil out of me.
5. Do I Disappoint You (Rufus Wainwright)
Do I disappoint you, in just being lonely? And not one of the elements that you can call your one and only Why does it always have to be water? Why does it always have to be holy wine? Destruction of all mankind
And do I disappoint you? Do I disappoint you in just being like you?
6. Fidelity (Regina Spektor)
And suppose I never ever met you Suppose we never fell in love Suppose I never ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft Suppose I never ever saw you Suppose we never ever called Suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall Just to break my fall Just to break my fall
7. Helas Madam (Sirinu; adapted from music attributed to Henry VIII)
Alas, madam, who I love so much, Allow me to be your humble servant. Your humble servant I will always remain, And as long as I live, no other shall I love.

Poetic Justice by roh_wyn
Dark eyes in fair face Like arrows, they pierce the soul. Yet, who lives, who dies?
You cannot have me. Cheaply is not my heart won. Yet, who loves, who weeps?
Put her asunder! You, I will not share with her. Yet, who loses, who wins?
A babe's born this day. Our clever-eyed girl, so bonny. Yet, who leaves, who stays?
Fell winds blow about us. In a blink, my world's broken. Yet, who lies, who grieves?
The blade glints sharply. When it falls, 'tis not the end. For who dies still lives.

Day 6
Five things you might not know...
1. Like Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn was a descendant of Edward I, on both sides of her family. Anne's paternal ancestors were the Bullens, descended from the Earls of Ormond (Ireland), the first of whom was married to Eleanor, a female-line granddaughter of Edward I. Her mother's family, the Howards, were descended from Thomas of Brotherton, the third son of Edward I.
2. Through her mother, she was also a cousin of Henry's fifth wife, Katherine Howard. In a macabre coincidence, Katherine met the same fate as Anne and is buried near her in The Chapel of St. Peter Ad Vincula at the Tower of London.
3. Over the course of their courtship and marriage, Henry wrote seventeen letters to Anne, in French and English. Some of these letters are preserved in the archives at The Vatican.
4. Before she met Henry, Anne Boleyn was engaged to Henry, Lord Percy. This fact was later used to invalidate her marriage to Henry on grounds of bigamy. In a bizarre legal twist, she was subsequently charged with adultery against the King and executed. She was not, however, charged with the felony of bigamy.
5. Anne's portait appears on one of the walls at Hogwarts in the movie version of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. At the time of her death, and for several years thereafter, Anne was rumored to be a witch. There has never been any evidence of this, but the movie makers may have been referencing the same rumors.

Day 7
Anne Boleyn vs. Thomas Cromwell
Anne Boleyn is prominently cast as the primary antagonist of the first and second series of The Tudors. First, she is the natural opponent of Katherine of Aragorn, the woman she ultimately replaces as queen consort. Second, she finds herself pitted against Thomas, Cardinal Wolsey, a man who wants to do his king's bidding, but he has no particular affection for Anne herself. Finally, she is at odds with Henry VIII himself, after she fails to produce a male heir and finds Henry's always-fickle attentions turned elsewhere.
But it is only when she butts heads with the most clever of Henry's advises, Thomas Cromwell, that we see another side to Anne. In her interactions with her other adversaries, Anne often comes off as grasping and manipulative. But in Cromwell, once a great friend and co-conspirator against Rome, her righteous anger, her genuine interest in reform and her determination to do the right thing (and to not allow anyone to cross her) come right to the surface.
In this clip, Anne and Cromwell argue about Act to Suppress the Monasteries, the revenues of which Anne hopes to redirect to charitable institutions and schools. Her line to Cromwell, “I will have you cropped at the neck,” is powerful but also incredibly ironic, given that Anne's subsequent fall from grace is engineered largely by Cromwell himself.

Cordelia Chase, Buffyverse, défendue par superkappa =>http://superkappa.livejournal.com/
Citation :
Day 1
So, for the first day of this I thought I'd start out with some of my favorite quotes of Cordelia from season 1 of Buffy. I often hear that people don't like her until season 2 or 3, or even well into Angel, and I loved my girl from day 1. So I thought I'd compile some of her greatest hits from that first season.
Episode 1: Welcome to the Hellmouth
God! What is your childhood trauma?!
I actually quote this one to people all the time now. It's just such a great insult to me.
Episode 2: The Harvest
Y'know? It's like when I go shopping. I have to have the most expensive thing. Not because it's expensive, but because it costs more.
I actually have always felt like this line is very revealing to how Cordelia thinks and feels at this point. She likes being important, having status, feeling like she matters and by having things that cost more, she asserts that status. It's interesting.
Episode 4: Teacher's Pet
let's just say I haven't been able to eat a thing since yesterday. I think I lost, like, seven and a half ounces? Way swifter than that so-called diet that quack put me on. Oh, I'm not saying that we should kill a teacher every day just so I can lose weight, I'm just saying when tragedy strikes, we have to look on the bright side. You know?
See and a positive thinker too! Okay, I'm kidding mostly n that, but this cracks me up every time. And it is a kind of weird way to look on the bright side. I love Cordelia's weird sense of logic whenever it rears it's head.
Episode 5: How To Kill A Boy On A First Date
Ooo! Hello, salty goodness! (to her friend) Pick up the phone, call 911. That boy is gonna need some serious oxygen after I'm through with him.
I love Cordelia's reaction to first seeing Angel. I love even more than they reference it in Spin the Bottle in season 4 of Angel.
Episode 9: The Puppet Show
But the mood! It'll be all wrong! (gets in front of him and stops him) My song is about dignity and human feelings and personal...hygiene or something. Anyway, it's sappy, and no one is gonna be feeling sappy after all that Rock and Roll.
Again, another one I chose because it amuses me. I'll fully admit that season 1 Cordelia can be a little one note in comparison to how much growth she gets later on, but that one note isn't a bad one to start on. She makes me laugh in these early episodes more than anyone else. Then again, Charisma Carpenter is like a goddess with comedic timing.
Episode 11: Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight
Cordelia: (stops Buffy) Hey! You think I'm never lonely because I'm so cute and popular? I can be surrounded by people and be completely alone. It's not like any of them really know me. I don't even know if they like me half the time. People just want to be in a popular zone. Sometimes when I talk, everyone's so busy agreeing with me, they don't hear a word I say.
Buffy: Well, if you feel so alone, then why do you work so hard at being popular?
Cordelia: Well, it beats being alone all by yourself.
And if we wanted to pinpoint the moment where my love for her was sealed, it was this one. There's something so heartbreaking about her speech here. Because somewhere along the line, Cordelia never learned how to let people just like her for herself. And she's actually pretty lonely despite being so popular (I think something that gets highlighted even more in the next couple of seasons, especially in her fall from grace in season 3).
Episode 12: Prophecy Girl
Cut to the library. Cordelia hits the vampire's hand and then bites it. The vampire screams and lets go.
Cordelia: See how *you* like it!
Cordelia bites back. Literally. Which is a great moment considering how much she's been a damsel in distress in the first season, and here we see the beginnings of her learning how to fight back.

Day 2
This is a gift, it comes with a price: or Cordelia's struggle and eventual acceptance of her visions
Nine episodes into Angel The Series, one of the main characters is killed off, and Cordelia's life is changed forever. Doyle giving her the visions is something that's often referred to as a "mistake", something that wasn't supposed to happen, but for all of that, Cordelia owns them, and for a mistake, a lot of good comes out of it. It's left ambigious to whether Doyle meant for this to happen or not, but it's interesting to watch Cordelia process it.
At first, she doesn't want anything to do with it. At this point, she's still trying to go after stardom (and ultimately, fame and acceptance, the second moreso than the first, which is why when she realizes she has that from Angel Investigations, she mostly gives up her acting dreams). It's played for laughs, how she kisses every guy she comes in contact with during "Parting Gifts" but could you imagine how scary that must have been for her? Not to mention she had just suffered a huge loss, the first one to really hit home to her. Her acts of desperation in that episode are almost heartbreaking, when you think of them like that.
For the most part, in the latter half of season 1 we see Cordelia treating those visions like a burden. It's like doing her taxes, she may not like it but she doesn't have a lot of choice in the manner either. She doesn't feel a personal connection to the victims, not yet. But then there's "To Shanshu In L.A." and this is pretty much a game changer for Cordelia. The devestating overload of visions opens her eyes, quite literally. She sees how much the people in her city are suffering, and this time, Cordelia doesn't get angry or annoyed, she gets determined. Her mind is made up. And once Cordelia's mind is set on something, good luck talking her out of it.
To me, that's the true moment of her accepting her visions as a gift instead of a burden. I know people cite the scene in Birthday a lot as her doing that, or even in Pyela, but I really think it starts here. I will say though, be given the option to lose her visions through sex with Groo is a great reference back to when she was trying to kiss them away, and how much she had changed since then. She refused to risk losing them, because for as painful and annoying as they could be, she liked them. Liked helping people. It gave her a sense of purpose, something she had never had before. So much that she begins to define her place in Angel Investigations around them. (Best seen in "That Vision Thing" when she tells Angel "Without my visions you wouldn't need me anymore.") Of course, they're not the only reason, but they are a big one.
Cordelia's growth and change through the onset of her visions is always so fascinating to me, especially since it was something that wasn't supposed to happen. She's not Buffy, she wasn't Chosen. It just kind of happened, and what she does with that cosmic oops is pretty awesome.

Today I braved my arch nemesis photoshop and attempted to make a wallpaper. It's not the best, but I like it. It's all from the Pylea arc, because I love Princess Cordelia more than I think most of the fandom does. Like it's kind of a bizzare arc, but it's a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun messing with the coloring for this, and actually rather like how it came out even though I am not normally a graphics maker.

Day 4
So today is going to be a rec day for me, mostly because I've been feeling kind of under the weather, which has made getting other stuff done harder. This is a little late...but whatever. I'll get another one up later today.
There's one one fic I'm reccing on top of my head (I really need to start a delicious account or something...anyways) but it's pretty much a must read for any Cordelia Fan.
Iokaste by eleusis_walks =>http://eleusis-walks.livejournal.com/39784.html#cutid1
The way ascension fills her up, slick and heavy, is what she'll always remember most. Something great and powerful and warm slides inside her, and it's better than anything she's ever felt. Better than the best meal she's ever eaten. Better than sex. Just better. She doesn't even notice the people below on Earth for weeks; she's too busy having the best metaphysical orgasm of her life.
But after a while, the sweetness fades. The spots hazing her vision clear. She takes a deep breath and looks down from the heavens, and sees Angel at the bottom of the sea. Watches his lungs fill with water, watches him gasp and gulp and suffer and try to endure, and suddenly she knows she has made the wrong choice. None of it feels good anymore, but that sense of physical completion -- of being filled to the brim, overstuffed, almost overflowing with something -- won't go away. It makes her nauseous and impatient.
Casting her eye down toward the water swallowing up Angel as he swallows it in kind, she tries to go to him, tries to animate herself, tries to shift her presence into some kind of arrow and fire herself to where he lies. No matter how hard she tries, there's nothing tangible up here. Nothing at all but the swollen bloat of the power stuffed inside her.
This is not an easy fic to read. It is triggering, it is difficult, but it also helps to do something the show never did, which is give Cordelia a voice during the events of season 4 while Jasimine has control of her body. I actually have trouble rereading this sometimes because it's so brutal, but I think it's definitely something everyone should read at least once in spite of that.
And now, onto fanvideos. Like fics, it's hard to find ones from Cordelia's point of view, but I've found a few really good ones. and yes, the first one I'm linking is one I've made. But I think it is a really good portrait of her...so no regrets.

Day 5
You Should See My Scars: An Essay on Cordelia Chase's secrets
One of Cordelia's most well known traits is that in both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: The Series she's the truth speaker. She's true to her namesake from King Lear in the fact that she, for the most part, never lies. Cordelia is blunt, honest to a fault. When called on it, she never backs away from this trait. As she most famously tells Giles at one point:
Tact is just saying not true stuff. I'll pass.
And then later, she tells Doyle:
I think it, I say it. That's my way.
Which, for the most part, it is. I think one of the most interesting parts of Cordelia, however, is that this applies to everything but her own feelings and problems. When it comes to those? She's down right secretive.
And most of that seems to be a defense mechanism. Time and time again, it's shown that Cordelia doesn't like to be seen as weak, or as a victim (I'd even go as far to say she gets almost victim blamey with other people from time to time because of this issue). The first time this really comes up in a full blown sort of way is the end of season 3 of Buffy, when she reveals to Xander that she's been working at a store to buy a prom dress, because her family lost all their money. She can't go to college despite getting into some really, really good ones because there are no funds to send her. It has to be a huge blow to her that all her plans have gone out the window, but she doesn't tell anyone about it.
Not that she at that point really has anyone to tell. She's an outsider at best with the Scoobies, and even more estranged once Xander cheats on her. Not to mention, Xander cheating on her was a big enough blow to her ego and social standing. I imagine she was afraid if the whole school found out about her family, she'd fall even farther from grace. So she keeps it a secret. A well placed one too, in retrospect. A lot of the later episodes of that season have her trying to leave Scooby meetings early, and while it looks like she's being callous and selfish, in retrospect you realize she's doing that because she has to go work.
The biggest example of this behavior in her, however, probably comes up in Angel: The Series and how she deals with how bad her visions get. Even before the reveal that they're killing her, we see Cordelia constantly trying to hide how bad they're getting. She waits until everyone else leaves to burst out crying, she takes pills in silence. When it starts manifesting in physical attacks on her in "That Vision Thing" she tries to hide it from Angel and the others. And this time, she has friends and a support system, but in spite of that, she still can't let them completely in. Old habits die hard, and in many ways Cordelia is a creature of pride. She doesn't want them to see her differently.
Which is why she goes to doctors secretly, tries to cope with things secretly. The only one who knows is Dennis, and he's bound to her apartment, and in a way to her, so of course he keeps her secrets until it's almost too late. One has to wonder if they could have found another solution if she had just clued the other in on how bad thing were getting before she ended up in a coma.
Even in her last appearance, this trait in her comes up. It's revealed in the end of the episode that Cordelia knew from the beginning of the episode that she wasn't back for good. And even when she has the chance to say goodbye to everyone (when they talk about going to go get drinks), she doesn't say anything. She leaves it to Angel to break that news to everyone. At best, she sort of says goodbye to Wesley (with the whole you still work the best mojo in town) and that makes sense since he's the closest person to her after Angel, but it's still jarring to think about. Once again, she wants to be seen a certain way, and avoid hard conversations as much as she can.
And as much as this whole word vomit essay might sound like a criticism, it's not. I'm a sucker for character flaws, and hubris in a form like this is really fascinating to me. Especially since Cordelia presents herself as the truthsayer, someone who's brutally honest, but then time and time again, she keeps these huge, devestating secrets to herself. It makes her that much more complex and interesting to me for it.
